Monday May 20th

Today we headed north for a day trip to Enchanted Rock State Park and then to Fredricksburg to retrieve our Amazon package (fingers crossed).

We arrived at Enchanted Rock a bit after 10 am, registered at the park office for a day use permit then headed to the trailhead. Enchanted Rock is a huge pink granite dome that rises out of the ground and stands over 450 feet high. It is quite a geological wonder as there is nothing else like it in the surrounding countryside. There are a number of trails in the park, but the main attraction is hiking to the summit of the dome.

It was hot when we started out and were wishing we would have arrived a bit sooner, but we slathered on sunscreen and set off. This was a most enjoyable hike, the yellow wildflowers were everywhere and were stunningly bright and bushy. We climbed to the top and explored the large domed summit area and down the backside to a point where it became too steep. There were large boulders strewn about and lots of patches of wildflowers to catch your eye. Everywhere we turned there was another picture to take. After a couple of hours of frolicking on the rock we descended and found our way back to the car.

We were quite excited back at the car because we received notification from Amazon that our package was delivered! We made a beeline for Fredricksburg, another German influenced town and found the store that handles Amazon deliveries. Funny thing at the store, they had opted out of being an Amazon delivery depot as it was more of a pain than it was worth. Luckily, they received our package and didn’t send it back! The store owner was very nice and was happy that the owners of the package showed up.

We spent a few hours walking main street Fredricksburg, a nice tidy town with lots of opportunities to drink beer and buy nice clothes. We stopped and browsed a few shops and of course had a coffee break. Stopped at Walmart on the way out and got a flyswatter, very important.

After Fredricksburg we headed back to camp, had BBQ’d pork tenderloin then went for a trail walk after dinner to stretch our legs

Quiet evening keeping cool as possible.
