When we visited the “Welcome Center” the previous day, the nice lady at the counter suggested we do a day trip to the Red River Gorge which is a short drive from the campground. The area is rugged and serviced by a road that loops through the gorge and is about 60km long. From the road there are numerous hikes and funky rock formations that can be accessed without too much effort. We ended up doing 5 separate hikes with Sky Bridge Arch being the most impressive. Runner up was a cool hike up to Tower Rock which is a rocky outcrop that juts up vertically approximately 200 feet, like castle walls from the top of the mountain. It is a rock climbers dream crag and we noticed some rock bolts used by rock climbers in some of the rock faces…no climbers though.

After our Red River Gorge tour we came back to camp, gathered up the laptop and headed back to Daniel Boone’s for more coffee and free Internet!

Back at camp, we enjoyed sitting out and catching some late afternoon sunshine and enjoying the comfortable 25 degree C temperatures. For supper we had homemade pizza (very tasty).
