Monday May 6th
After a hearty breakfast we decided to go for a morning run across the dam
and back. There was a great road along the base of the dam which had a nice
parkland feel to it. At the north end of the dam the road looped up and
connected with the upper road which transited back across the barrier. There
was a nice breeze blowing off the lake, but was still quite hot, luckily there
were some clouds.
After the run we headed into the town of Grenada for a look around. There
were a surprising number of malls and services in Grenada – we did a bit of
shopping, stopped for a coffee and checked out the local nine hole golf course.
We were considering a round of golf however this course was pretty rough so we
moved on. The other course in the area was run by the state park and was a full
18 hole course, carved out of the woods over rolling terrain. We were
disappointed to find it equally under loved…so we passed on it too. What golf
snobs we’ve become!
We headed back to camp, stopping first at the beach area and then at the
visitor center. We chatted with the visitor center person and learned a few
more things about the area, like there is another full service campground at
the far end of the dam run by the Nation Park Service.
We finished our day with a local hike to a civil war bunker and some river
overlooks, not too much to see but a nice walk in the woods.
