 Friday May 10th

Today we headed to Lafayette Louisiana. It felt like we turned a corner and instead of going south we were now heading in a new direction – west. Lafayette is in the heart of bayou country, so we were hoping to do some paddling in the Atchafalaya Basin. We had originally planned to drive back across the big bridge to New Orleans and then take scenic backroads to Lafayette, but we didn’t want to drag Free-da though New Orleans and after a bit more research on our proposed route, we decided it would be more fun to make a bee line to our destination and spend a little less time in the car.

We arrived at Bayou Wilderness RV Campground, one of two RV campgrounds we are staying at on this trip, all the rest being state parks. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the campground was, not too busy, swimming pool, very tidy. We setup and made our way into Lafayette for some shopping and returned to camp for a relaxing afternoon and evening.
