Friday, we said goodbye to
Pennsylvania and headed south across the border to West Virginia. We made a pit
stop halfway in Morgantown WV where we stretched our legs at the Botanic
Gardens which is really a conservation area that used to be the site of a water
reservoir. It has been drained, reclaimed and has some nice urban walking
trails and natural gardens. We also stocked up on groceries for our stay at
Blackwater Falls State Park, then headed southeast to the campground. The state
park is way up there in at 1000 meters and the trees are a bit behind those at
lower elevations. Its still early for camping in WV and only half the campsite
is open for business. It is the weekend though and the park is at least half
full. Took a walk after setting up camp to check out the falls. They stand 57
feet high with lots of water going over – apparently it’s been a wet spring
here.
